OCU second seed in SAC Tournament

Mindy Crabaugh ranks second on the team in batting average and RBIs.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University will be the No. 2 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament starting Friday at Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Stars, ranked eighth in the NAIA, enter the tournament at 45-7. OCU will get a first-round bye then play at 2 p.m. Friday.

The championship game of the tournament will be 2 p.m. Sunday. The if-necessary game would follow.

OCU has pounded 90 home runs, breaking the single-season NAIA home run record of 87 set by OCU's 1995 team. Erin Slettvet hit the team's 88th and record-breaking homer Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Slettvet, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., was the NAIA player of the week this week. On the year, Slettvet has a .408 average, 15 home runs, 54 RBIs and a .740 slugging percentage. She is tied for the team lead in RBIs, third in the conference in homers and fifth in the NAIA in homers.

Amanda Howard, a junior from Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, tops the NAIA in homers (25), slugging percentage (1.018) and total bases (176). She has hit .451 with 54 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

Mindy Crabaugh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., has hit .410 with eight homers and 51 RBIs.
