OKLAHOMA CITY – Melissa Moore homered twice in Oklahoma City University's 5-0, 11-1 victories over Bacone on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Moore, a senior from Oklahoma City, nailed a grand slam to finish off the Stars' second-game win. OCU, ranked sixth in NAIA softball, moved to 39-7.
In the first game, Erin Slettvet and Moore pounded back-to-back homers in the third inning. Lily LaVelle had an RBI base hit to put OCU up 3-0 in the fourth.
Jen Davis led off the sixth with a solo shot over the left-field wall. Mindy Crabaugh added a run-scoring single.
Ashley Wilburn allowed only two base runners in the game – Tiffany Ward led off the second with a base hit and Paige Priest led off the third by reaching on an error. Wilburn, a junior from Gilmer, Texas, retired the final 12 batters she faced. Wilburn (19-3) notched 13 strikeouts, striking out the side in the fourth and the seventh.
LaVelle, a freshman from Bridge Creek, Okla., went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In the second game, Amanda Howard led off the bottom of the first with her 20th homer of the year. In the third, Crabaugh drove in a run with a double, Moore had an RBI single and Wilburn drove in another run with a base hit.
In the fourth, Slettvet doubled with the bases loaded to plate three runs.
In the sixth, Alicia Clifton, Crabaugh and Slettvet singled to fill the bases. Moore nailed a 1-0 pitch for a grand slam.
LaVelle permitted only Melanie Hawkins' homer in the second. LaVelle set down the final 14 batters she faced. LaVelle (18-4) recorded 11 strikeouts and struck out the side in the third and fifth.
The Stars take on Northwestern Oklahoma State in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
