OCU sweeps Oklahoma Baptist 2-0, 6-4

Amanda Howard hit a home run in the first game.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University defeated Oklahoma Baptist 2-0, 6-4 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium. 
The Stars, currently ranked second in NAIA softball, improved to 30-2, 13-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Amanda Howard, a junior from Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, led the first game off with her 14th home run of the season over the center-field wall. Howard went 1-for-3 with one RBI. 
Lily LaVelle, a freshman from Bridge Creek, Okla., also scored in the first inning after getting on base with a single. LaVelle scored on a double steal.

Ashley Wilburn, a junior from Gilmer, Texas, threw seven innings for the Stars and recorded her 14th win of the season. Wilburn posted 10 strikeouts and gave up three hits.

In the second game, Melissa Moore, a senior from Oklahoma City, knocked a three-run home run out to center field in the third inning, giving the Stars the lead. Jen Davis, a junior from Muscatine, Iowa, also hit a two-run home run down the left-field line in the third inning.

LaVelle threw 6.2 innings for the Stars, recording her 14th win on the season. LaVelle gave up four runs on six hits with 12 strikeouts.

The Stars will face Rogers State on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Ann Lacy Stadium.
