OCU suffers 76-61 setback to OBU

Rogers tops Stars with 17 points

Orlan Jackman tallied 11 points for the Stars against fourth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday.
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University battled before falling 76-61 to league leader Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at the Noble Complex.
Shane Rogers, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, supplied the Stars with 17 points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers. OCU went to 9-10, 6-9 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Oklahoma Baptist, ranked fourth in NAIA Division I, moved to 19-3, 12-3. Emmanuel Wilson led OBU with 20 points.
“You look at the final score, and it looks easy, but it was anything but easy,” Oklahoma Baptist coach Doug Tolin said. “They present a challenge. They can run and jump. They're different from any other team in the league.”
Orlan Jackman, a senior from London, produced 11 points for the Stars. Troynell Adams, a junior from Chicago, chipped in 10 points and three rebounds.
OCU finished at 42.4 percent shooting from the field after hitting 55.6 percent of its shots in the first half.
Jackman sank a fadeaway jumper in the lane to cut OCU's deficit to 52-49 with 8:23 on the clock. Kaleb Smith drove the baseline and scored to slice Oklahoma Baptist's lead to 54-51 with 7:27 left.
Rogers nailed a 3-pointer to draw OCU within 61-56 at the 4:21 mark. Rogers' 3 preceded a 13-2 OBU run. David Johnson put OBU ahead 74-58 with a bucket at the 1:20 mark.
Oklahoma Baptist regained the lead from OCU as Wilson dropped in a 3-pointer off Marques Anderson's feed 44-43 with 15:20 remaining.
Wilson's trey came in the midst of a 9-0 Oklahoma Baptist spree. Jacobi Isham capped the run with a pair of free throws for a 48-43 OBU edge with 14:27 to go.
DeAngelo McIntosh provided Oklahoma Baptist its only lead of the first half. McIntosh's 3-pointer at the 8:06 mark put OBU up 21-19.
OCU regained the lead with six unanswered points. Cory Nicholson's bucket tied the game 21-21, then Adams added two baskets for a 25-21 Stars lead at 5:30 left in the first.
The Stars face St. Gregory's at 5 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
