The Stars begin the year ranked 25th in NAIA women's soccer.

Oklahoma City University is looking to continue where they left off in the 2009 postseason and keep its hot foot alive. For the Stars to return to the national stage, maintaining health and rebounding from injuries that plagued last year will be paramount.

OCU went 11-7-1 after a slow start and fell one match shy of nationals after falling in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.

NEW YORK – Oklahoma City University has garnered the top spot in Golf World’s preseason NAIA men’s golf rankings.

The defending national champion Stars picked up 10 of the 11 first-place votes in the rankings. OCU captured its seventh men’s golf national title after previously winning crowns in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

BEIJING, China – Amberle Montgomery of Oklahoma City University won a silver medal at 63 kilograms (138.75 lbs.) in the SportAccord World Combat Games on Wednesday.

This unique competition includes elite international competition in a number of combat and martial arts disciplines.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University began its 2010 men’s soccer campaign on Saturday evening with a 3-1 victory over Huston-Tillotson (Texas) at Stars Field.

The Stars led the duration of the game and was helped to the victory by the impressive goalkeeping by senior Andy Fitzpatrick from Kansas City, Mo. Fitzpatrick recorded five saves in the second period to solidify the win.

8.28.10 | Women's Volleyball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University finished its season-opening weekend 1-2 as College of the Ozarks (Mo.) edged the Stars 24-26, 20-25, 25-19, 29-27, 15-9 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena in the OCU volleyball classic.

Xiaoting Ma, a senior from Dalian, China, spearheaded the Stars with 18 kills, 21 digs and four blocks, while Alex Benbrook, a junior from Enid, Okla., added 14 kills and five blocks.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University split its season-opening matches in the first day of the Oklahoma City Classic on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.

The Stars knocked off Oklahoma Wesleyan 25-12, 25-13, 25-11 before falling to Wiley (Texas) 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 25-18 in the nightcap.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Athletes from across the country are competing in the USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Championships on the Oklahoma River, where some are qualifying for the 2010 Pan Am Championships in Mexico City on Oct. 8-10.

In the 500-meter events, qualifying athletes include Olympian Carrie Johnson, who placed first in the women’s senior single-person kayak event with a time of 1 minute, 53.714 seconds.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jeff Maack of Oklahoma City University has been selected for induction into the NAIA Hall of Fame, the association announced recently.

Maack will become the first former OCU athlete inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. He helped build OCU’s tradition in baseball, becoming a two-time all-American and leading the Chiefs to the first NAIA World Series appearances in the program’s history from 1985-88.

Oklahoma City University will look to upperclassmen leadership to return the team to national prominence this fall.

The Stars reached the NAIA men’s soccer championship semifinal match in 2008. The 2009 squad posted a 15-4-2 record, falling just short in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament finals. OCU missed out on an opportunity to return to the national stage.
