John Brown nips Stars 71-68

OCU has played in 13 games decided by five points or less

Cory Nicholson notched 10 points and four rebounds against John Brown.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University men's basketball narrowly fell 71-68 on the road to No. 13 John Brown (Ark.) Saturday at Bill George Arena.
The loss moves the Stars' record to 12-12 on the season and 9-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. OCU has lost eight games by less than five points this season.
Orlan Jackman scored a quick five points to give OCU a 5-2 lead early in the first half. The Stars led by five at the 14:42 mark when John Brown embarked on a 10-0 run to take 16-11 lead with 11:15 left to play in the half.
Charlton Jones converted a pair of free-throw attempts just before halftime to knot the game up 41-41. The first half saw six ties and four lead changes.
Jackman posted 11 points in the half and Jones added eight to lead the Stars.
John Brown snagged an early lead in the second half, but OCU countered with an 8-0 run to take a 42-38 lead at the 15:48 mark. Tim Morton went to work inside scoring five points, and Kaleb Smith capped the run with a 3-point jumper from the left wing.
John Brown regained the lead at the 2:50 mark and led by three with 17 second to go in the game. Shane Rogers tried for the tie and missed from 3-point range but Troynell Adams corralled the rebound and scored to cut the lead to 69-68 with four seconds to go.
After a pair of John Brown free throws OCU had a chance to tie but turned the ball over and John Brown took the 71-68 victory.
The Stars shot 47 percent from the field on the game but only hit 3-of-12 shots from behind the 3-point line.
Adams led the Stars with 14 points and five rebounds. Jackman and Jones added 11 points apiece and Cory Nicholson posted 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
OCU will return to action against St. Gregory's at 8 p.m. Wednesday at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse in Shawnee, Okla.
