GOODWELL – Oklahoma City used a strong defensive game and stifled Oklahoma Panhandle State in three sets on Friday, 25-5, 25-14, 25-12.

The Stars improved to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference while winning their third Sooner Athletic Conference road match in as many chances.

"Proud of our bounce back from last weekend," said OCU Coach
Kristen Coventon. "We focused a lot on blocking this past week and we got a lot of good touches and blocks today. It was so good to see us making those changes."
OCU had seven blocks and forced the Aggies into more attack errors than kills for a negative 0.24 attack percentage.

Maddie Edwards led the way with six blocks with
Kacie Townsend getting in on three and
Erin Mack posting two in her return from injury.
Rylie Steward and
Kate Cleofe had 11 digs apiece.

The offense was strong as well, swinging at a .412 attack percentage.
Bailey Lowder had nine kills and
Kacie Townsend added eight. Steward had 22 assists.
Amber Jones had five aces.

The Stars dashed out to a 16-1 lead in the first set to establish the tone. Jones had two kills and all five of her aces in that opening salvo.

OCU controlled the second set as well, leading by 11 on two occasions, including the set point – a kill by Lowder.

The Stars used an 8-0 run to pull away in the third set, which Townsend ended with a kill.

OCU concludes its road trip at Wayland Baptist on Saturday. First serve is at 1 p.m.
