Stars Turn Focus to NAIA Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City heads to Silvis, Illinois, for the 2026 NAIA Men's Golf Championship Tuesday through Friday at TPC Deere Run.

The Team: Carter Ray, Christian Yanovitch, Lorenzo Santinelli, Cameron Bozyk and Jack Newton are probable team members with Simon Jansson, Philipp Perzl and Luke Woods are making the trip as probable substitutes. Santinelli leads the team with a 70.9 scoring average, followed by Ray at 71, Yanovitch at 71.1, Newton at 71.6, Jansson at 72.4, Bozyk at 72.6, Perzl at 73 and Woods at 75.4. 
 
SAC Champions: Second-ranked Oklahoma City captured the Sooner Athletic Conference championship on Tuesday, blazing a 13-under par third round to win the men's golf title by 21 strokes.Carter Ray won the men's title at 11 under par, leading four Stars who had sub-70 rounds on Tuesday. Ray shot six-under for 66 on Tuesday while individual entrant Lorenzo Santinelli finished sixth after his round of 67. Christian Yanovitch shot 68 and Jack Newton had a 69. Ray finished the tournament with rounds of 66, 73 and 66 with 18 birdies. Newton went 68-74-69 with 15 birdies for the tournament. Yanovitch placed seventh with rounds of 73, 72 and 68. Simon Jansson was 15th, going 72-78-72 for six over par. Rounding out the team was Cameron Bozyk in 17th place with rounds of 77, 72 and 73.  OCU individual entrants Santinelli, Philipp Perzl and Luke Woods placed second, 11th and 24th, respectively. Santinelli had rounds of 68, 72 and 67 to finish nine under par. Perzl had rounds of 75, 71 and 72 for two under par. Woods went 79-74-79. 
 
All-SAC: Oklahoma City University placed three men on the All-Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Team and Blake Trimble earned Coach of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. Carter Ray, Lorenzo Santinelli and Christian Yanovitch made the team, joining Trimble. Ray, a sophomore from Walters, had a stroke average of 71. He won the SAC Championship on Tuesday and had five other top 10 finishes this season. Santinelli, a senior from Milan, Italy, averaged 70.9 strokes per round. He won the Battle in the Desert and was runner-up at the SAC Tournament. He had three other top 10 finishes on the season. Yanovitch, a senior from Griswold, Connecticut, had a 71.1 stroke average. He won the Texas Wesleyan Spring Invitational and had six other top 10 finishes on the season. Trimble led the Stars to a No.2 national ranking and the SAC Championship. His teams won five other tournament titles this season and had four different golfers claim individual titles. 
 
NAIA Scholar Athletes: Carter Ray, Jack Newton, Luke Woods and Philipp Perzl earned NAIA Scholar Athlete honors, which requires a 3.50 grade point average. 
 
Last Year's Nationals: Oklahoma City University took its final round eight over par to the clubhouse in fourth place and then watched as team after team struggled with the back nine until the Stars finished up with a runner-up trophy. OCU put three golfers in the top 15 for All-Tournament status and finished the rain-shortened 54-hole tournament two strokes behind Lindsey Wilson at 12 over par for the tournament. Additionally, Tres Hill was named a PING NAIA All-American shortly after the tournament. Christian Yanovitch jumped 17 places in the final round to finish ninth at one over par. He had a round of 70 on Friday with birdies on holes two, seven, 12, 16 and 18. Michael Robson shot 73 on Friday with a birdie on the 14th hole to finish two over par for the tournament, claiming 13th place. Lorenzo Santinelli's 78 on Friday put him in 15th place at plus three. He had a birdie on the eighth hole. Tres Hill and Carter Ray tied for 49th at 11 over par. Ray jumped up 41 spots with his 73 on Friday, which included birdies on holes four, 10 and 12. Hill shot a 76. Yanovitch led OCU for the tournament with a dozen birdies, followed by Santinelli with 10, Robson with seven, Hill with four and Ray with three.
