PARK CITY, Kan. - Oklahoma City opened men's wrestling season with four champions at the Falcon Open on Saturday.
Kaden Fetterolf, John Wiley and Tate Picklo each won their weight class in the elite competition and Kaden Wallace picked up a first-place finish in the amateur ranks.
Additionally, Jordan Lomeli placed third and Hayden Brown fourth in the elite level with Jace Province taking fourth in his weight class in the amateur bracket.
"I think we looked good for the first completion of the season," said OCU Head Coach Justin Ensign. "As a team, we picked up some good wins against good competition, and we also got a lot that we can take back to the practice room and work on to keep improving. Overall a lot to be positive about going forward."
Picklo, ranked eighth at 174, scored a pair of technical falls before getting a third, this time against seventh-ranked Leonardo Galasso of Arizona Christian, 20-5, 4:21. Picklo then pulled the rankings upset of third-ranked Daniil Gorshkov of Embry Riddle with an 11-6 decision.
Fetterolf, ranked 19th at 149, also pulled off a rankings upset, scoring a 7-0 decision over Wayland Baptist's 11th-ranked Jaden Two Lance, 7-0, in the semis. In the earlier rounds, Fetterolf had two technical falls and a decision. He beat Embry-Riddle's Christian Lopez by major decision, 10-1.
Wiley, ranked ninth at 157, won his first two matches by fall before taking down No. 8 Benjamin Miller of Doane in convincing fashion with a technical fall, up 18-3 t the 3:10 mark.
Lomeli went 4-1 on the day. Ranked seventh in the 165 class, his lone loss was to No. 5 Zander Ernst of Morningside. Brown, ranked 15th at 165, also went 4-1 with a pair of technical falls and a major decision.
Wallace went swiftly through the first three rounds of the 141 class with technical falls before outlasting his final three opponents on the day with decisions to go 6-0.
Province was 4-1 on the day, also in the 141 weight class, with his only loss being a tough two-point decision in the semifinals.
