Stars Sweep College of the Ozarks

OKLAHOMA CITY – The revenge tour for Oklahoma City continued on Friday with the Stars volleyball team sweeping the College of the Ozarks and clinching a berth in the postseason tournament.

The Stars won to improve to 10-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 13-12 overall, taking the match 25-20, 25-16, 25-15.

"We worked hard in practice all week on specific defensive things and we implemented all of those today in the game," said OCU Head Coach Kristen Coventon. "It showed. That's a very good team and this was an important win for us tonight. We've been on a little revenge tour. We've been working really hard to get those games back that we lost at the beginning of the season."

The first set had all the hallmarks of a battle with the score tied at 17, but the Stars flexed and scored eight of the last 11 points for the win. The Stars got back-to-back kills by Maddie Edwards to finish off the set.

The Stars trailed 13-12 in the second set but zipped away on an 8-1 run, highlighted by three Grace Smallwood kills for a 20-14 lead. OCU cruised to the win from there.

OCU never trailed in the third set as Smallwood and Erin Mack had two kills each as the Stars rolled to a 10-2 lead. OCU led by as many as a dozen points in the finale.

Smallwood had 17 kills and 16 digs for the double-double. Marina Kalajdzic had 11 kills and Natalie Adams finished with 35 assists.

Defensively, Kaylie Marshall joined Smallwood in double-figure digs with 10. Kalajdzic was in on four blocks and Edwards had a hand in three.

The Stars return to action at home Saturday, hosting John Brown at 1 p.m.
