Golesis and Jewell split for 22, Stars earn win at College of the Ozarks

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The Oklahoma City Men's Basketball team snap a four-game losing streak with a road win at College of the Ozarks as Yorgio Golesis and Clayton Jewell combine for 44 of the 76 points on Monday night.

STAR OF THE SHOW: Yorgio Golesis posted his second-highest point total of the season with 22 on the night after going five straight games with four points or less. Golesis filled up the stat sheet in 34 minutes of action tying the game-high of four assists while hauling in three boards and picking up three steals. 

STAT OF THE GAME: Oklahoma City cashed in a season-high 34 made field goals as Jewell and Golesis combined for 21 while seven players scored on the night. 

FIRST HALF: Sitting at a 5-5 tie, Oklahoma City strung together a 9-2 run sparked by an Avery Jackson three-pointer that allowed the Stars to go up seven points five minutes in. Back to a six point lead, Oklahoma City extended it out to double-digits after a 10-2 run that put the Stars up 14 behind back-to-back jumpers by Sam Taulapiu. Oklahoma City held at least a five point lead for the remainder of the half as Yorgio Golesis caught fire with 15 points in the first 20 minutes shooting a blistering 7-of-10 from the field to help lead OCU to a 41-34 advantage into the break. 

SECOND HALF: Oklahoma City came on fire in the second half with a 14-2 run to take its largest lead of the night at 55-36 as Clayton Jewell scored 10 points during the run including eight straight of his own. With under 10 minutes to play, Jackson and Jewell combined for nine points to help maintain the double-digit lead as OCU continued to answer on each possession. Jewell finished the quarter with 14 points while Jackson grabbed eight of his 10 rebounds in the 20 minute period. 

GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City lifts a weight off its back by snapping a four-game losing streak to move to 9-7 overall and 5-7 in SAC play. 
  • Clayton Jewell posted his eighth double-double of the season by tying a game-high 22 points while leading the game with 11 rebounds. 
  • Avery Jackson tabbed his second double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the junior sank the only two threes for Oklahoma City shooting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. 
  • Oklahoma City turned up its defense allowing its third lowest point total by an opponent this season to go along with seven steals on the night. 
  • The two teams split the season-series with one another after Ozarks previously earned an 87-83 victory back on Nov. 18 inside Abe Lemons Arena. 
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will return back home on Saturday afternoon to take on Southwestern Christian for the first time this season at 4:00 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
