Set 1: 25-15
Set 2: 25-16
Set 3: 25-13
STAR OF THE SHOW:
Grace Smallwood tabbed her fourth double-double of the season as the Stars freshman from Oklahoma City carried game-highs in kills with 14 and in digs with 11.
THE RUNDOWNÂ
Set 1
Ruby Kelley opened up the Stars scoring with two kills during a 5-1 run to open the match for OCU. The Stars went on to extend its lead by scoring six straight points during a 7-1 run that included a Kelley ace as well as kills by
Grace Smallwood and
Emma Nickerson. Continuing a set of runs, Oklahoma City clinched set point after a 6-1 run as Kelley and Smallwood carried on their dominance to take a 24-11 lead. The Drovers would not go down easily scoring four points in a row before an attack error that gave Oklahoma City a 25-15 win in the first set.Â
Set 2
The home squad opened up in the second set on fire scoring six points in a row right out of the gate as Kelley supplied four kills during that stretch while
Erin Mack finished it off to make it 6-0. Science & Arts could only bring their deficit to as little as four points before Oklahoma City took off once again putting together an 8-1 run as
Rylee Steward jumped into the mix with a kill of her to give OCU its biggest lead at 19-7. Like the first set, the Drovers did not go away easily having a 5-1 run go in their direction. However, the hole was to deep to climb out of as Smallwood provided the final two kills for Oklahoma City to earn a 25-16 victory in set two.
Set 3
After USAO jumped out 1-0 it was the Stars who grabbed the lead for good by rattling off four straight point behind kills from Nickerson, Steward and Mack. Science & Arts only scored back-to-back points twice in the third set as Oklahoma City took advantage by having three different stretches of scoring four in a row as the freshman Smallwood collected five kills in the third set helping her team grow a double-digit lead just before
Joeci Hunt delivered an ace to put the Stars up 22-10.
Maddie Edwards gave the Stars match point with a kill of her own which followed with a match-ending block by
Rylee Steward and
Marina Kalajdzic to capture a 25-13 win.
