WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The Oklahoma City Stars volleyball team falls to Nelson in three to begin the weekend road trip in Texas.

STAT OF THE GAME: Michela De Sefano posted a season-high of eight kills after topping her previous number set in her first game of the season one week ago against Mid-America Christian.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
Oklahoma City began the opening set with some force after a quick 4-1 run behind three kills from three different players including
Maddie Edwards,
Ruby Kelley and
Erin Mack. Nelson jumped right back around with five straight of its own and continued its hot stretch by taking an 11-6 over the Stars. OCU was able to cut the deficit to three after a kill by
Michela De Stefano, however, Nelson turned red hot exploding for a 10-1 run to reach set point and go on to win 25-14.
Set 2
OCU took a 2-0 lead right out of the gate to start the second set however it would go down as the only lead the Stars were able to put together in the set as Nelson put together a 5-1 run and a 7-1 run to take a 16-7 advantage. Once the scoreboard showed 17-10 the Lions decided to close it out on their own scoring eight in a row to finish things off as Kelley and
Grace Smallwood combined for five of the six OCU kills in the set as De Stefano garnered the other.
Set 3
The advantage in the third set swayed in each others direction to start out before Oklahoma City took control and gathered a 6-1 run on three kills from Kelley to secure a 9-6 lead. Nelson battled its way back by using an 11-2 run to go ahead 20-13, its biggest lead of the set. De Stefano and Kelley supplied the Stars with three more kills but Nelson was to much to overcome falling 25-18 in the closing set.
Game Notes
- With the loss, Oklahoma City moves to 7-9 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
- Oklahoma City tallied a season-low of just one block coming from Michela De Stefano and Rylee Steward. The number passes a previous low of three set against College of Saint Mary on Aug. 17.
- Nelson tied a season-high in service aces by an opponent with 11 tying games against John Brown and Eastern Oregon
- Ruby Kelley led the way for Oklahoma City in kills with nine. Kelley's kill total was only her third time in 10 games this season where she has gone under double-digits.
- The setting duo of Natalie Adams and Jaiden Downey combined for 25 of the 27 OCU saves on Friday night.
- Adams tallied 15 assists on the night making it the 10th straight match with double-digits numbers.
- Downey reached double-digit assists for the 11th straight time with 10.
- OCU dropped its sixth straight match against Nelson, moving the all-time series to 20-10 in favor of Oklahoma City dating back to 2006.
