OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars volleyball team finished off a successful weekend after a win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in four sets.

THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
Oklahoma City bounced out to a hot start by scoring nine in a row to take a 10-2 lead. OCU grew its lead all the way up to 19-6 as the Stars tallied five kills over six points coming from
Rylee Steward,
Jaiden Downey,
Maddie Edwards and
Ruby Kelley.Â
Jaiden Downey and
Erin Mack finished things off with back-to-back kills taking its largest lead of the set at 25-8.
Set 2
Panhandle got off to a strong start in the second set going up 3-0 and then going up 11-8 after a 4-0 run leading to an Oklahoma City timeout. Out of break, OCU created its own 6-0 run after two kills from
Grace Smallwood and an ace by Natalie Aams to capture a 14-11 advantage. As the lead traded sides for most of the way, the set held a 22-22 tie down the stretch however it was Panhandle who scored three of the next four to win the set 25-23.
Set 3
Oklahoma City held an 8-7 lead as the Stars began its path to puling away from Panhandle by putting together an 8-2 run as three straight kills came from three Stars freshman in
Grace Smallwood,
Erin Mack and
Bailey Lowder. OCU wasn't done yet after rattling off another run of 5-1 as Smallwood delivered two more kills. OPSU scored for back-to-back points only twice in the set and after doing so it was Oklahoma City who closed it out with a pair of kills by
Rylee Steward and
Ruby Kelley.Â
Set 4
Working to close things out in four and Oklahoma City was on the correct pace by stringing together an 8-0 run to take a 10-1 lead. Leading 15-7, it was all about OCU for the rest of the way going on a 9-2 run and eventually closing things out with a kill by Kelley to win in four.
Game Notes
- With the win, Kristen Coventon gets win number 97 since arriving at OCU six years.Â
- The setting duo of Natalie Adams and Jaiden Downey showcased their talents Oklahoma City set a season-high of 52 total assists as Downey set a career-high of 23 while Adams tallied a game-high 24.
- Kaitlyn Dunlap set a season-high with 26 digs being the second time this season she has dug 20 plus.
- Grace Smallwood collected 14 digs making it the fourth straight match to have double-digit digs while having nine kills.
