DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Oklahoma City Stars Stunt team went down to Daytona Beach in search of its first ever NCA title and came back victorious.
After prelims on Thursday the Stars sat in second place behind Texas Wesleyan by just 0.0075 points as both Sooner Athletic Conference schools stood way ahead of the rest of the field.Â
In the finals, Oklahoma City stepped up its game and passed the Rams without any deductions to secure its first ever NCA championship with an event score of 90.89.Â
Head coach Savannah Owen took over the program at the beginning of the spring semester and says, "This win means so much to this team. They persevered after losing their coach right before STUNT season, which is when the decision was made to go to NCA, Owen said. "These athletes have only had their routine for 40 days — most teams have been working 6+ months to prepare for this. Practice after practice they have stepped up and trusted the process, and I couldn't be more proud. As an alumni of the program, I was on the very first All-Girl National Championship team at OCU (2012), and so it's been an amazing experience to return back to Daytona and bring the trophy home again, but this time, as a coach. These are the sweetest and best group of athletes — they earned it!"
