SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Track and Field team opened up their outdoor season at Oklahoma Baptist over the weekend. The Stars competed in the OBU Invitational in a field made up of Division II, NAIA, and junior college schools.
The Stars women saw a good amount of success over the weekend with a first place finish in the 4x800 relay made up of
Erika Pena,
Florencia Cabrera,
Isabelle Spiller and
Cailen Jolley. The group finished with the top time of 9:34.73.
OCU saw three top 10 finishes on the track side all coming in the 400 meter race with
Vanessa Perez leading the way finishing third overall in 59.60 while
Florencia Cabrera (7th) and
Cailen Jolley (8th) followed in behind.
Daryn Batts claimed the top stop in the women's Shot Put with a throw of 12.83m while freshman teammate Jazmine Adams finished third with a personal best of 12.12m.
The OCU men were highlighted by
Brendan Robeaux after a win in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.64. Oklahoma City collected six top 10 finishers in the men's 5000 meter race with Ayenew Devany (2nd) coming in with a time of 15:19.18 while teammates
Beckam Hartis (3rd), David Boulanger (4th), Elijah White (5th), Damien Williams (6th) and
Halen Biggs (8th).
Just as the women, the OCU men picked up a win in the 4x800 relay made up of
Kanyon Cobbs,
Tate Smithhart,
Brendan Robeaux and
Elijah White who finished with an NAIA B standard time at 7:43.21.
On the field side, OCU picked up four top 10 finishes with
Ethan Vandevier finished sixth in the high jump at 1.85 meters.
Jordan Iwuchukwu finished in the top 10 in two different events as the senior claimed sixth place in the shot put and finished ninth in discuss.
To wrap things up,
William Peetoom took ninth in the men's hammer at a mark of 28.98.
