Smith and Ashley tab All-American honors, Stars place 16th in Nationals

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Oklahoma City women's wrestling team finished their season at NAIA Nationals by traveling to Jamestown, North Dakota, to compete in the NAIA National Tournament, hosted inside the Harold Newman Arena.

Two Stars, Sophia Smith and Avery Ashley, highlighted the event, wrestling their way to an All-American title as the team finished 16th overall.
 
Sophia Smith garnered All-American honors with a 2-2 record to finish fifth in the 123-lb weight class. Smith defeated Anna Krejsa from Life (Ga.) in the fifth place match winning 11-0 in 5:25. Smith finished her career at OCU with her third all-American bid as a four-year captain. 

Sophomore Avery Ashley wrestled to an All-American spot with a 3-3 record, finishing sixth in the 116-lb weight class.he first round, Ashley started the event with an 11-0 and 10-0 victories before picking up another victory in the quarterfinals over Ariana Martinez with another 10-0 win in 1:18. Ashley's run came to a halt in the semifinals putting her in a spot to finish sixth overall and earned her second all-American honor. 

The Stars finished 16th overall in the 37 team field as Menlo (Calif.) took the 2024 title with 172 team points.
