OKLAHOMA CITY - The number 23 ranked Oklahoma City Men's Basketball team make big plays down the stretch to come away with a 66-61 victory over #1 Langston on Thursday night inside Abe Lemons Arena.

STAR OF THE SHOW: Yorgio Golesis played all 40 minutes for the second consecutive time out as the Stars sophomore posted a season-high of 23 points on an effective 8-of-13 shooting while dishing out five assists. Golesis keeps his double-digit score streak alive for the eight straight game while crossing the 20 point mark for the first time this year.
STAT OF THE GAME: Oklahoma City shot its best percentage from beyond the arc this season going 50 percent (6-12) from downtown as
Avery Jackson and
Beau Tranter both split with two apiece.
FIRST HALF: The Stars solidified they would be tough to take down right from the get go as
James Cloud got loose for a backdoor slam that the game up at two.
Brandon Wilson gave Oklahoma City its first lead with 8:51 to go that was followed up by a takeaway from
Yorgio Golesis leading to a fastbreak layup to put the Stars up 18-15. Off the bench,
Beau Tranter played a major impact scoring on back-to-back possessions which including a one of his two threes on the night that gave OCU an eight point lead. The Stars saw its lead reach up to nine points before the momentum began to swing back towards Langston as the half was about to come to a close. On the final possession with 10 seconds left Cloud hit a huge three to take it from a five point game back up to eight heading into the halftime break.
SECOND HALF: Out of the locker room, Langston made it a tight contest bringing themselves back to tie it up at 44 all with under 10 to play. Oklahoma City went on to put together a 9-2 run as Golesis hit a three-point shot from deep range while
Clayton Jewell made a huge play on a follow up dunk that made it 53-46. The Lions closed the gap once again to just one after Amoro Lado hit a big shot from downtown with 2:17 to play. Things stayed close as the game went under 60 seconds to play as the Stars had the ball with a one point lead as
Avery Jackson had the ball in hand with a chance to make a play. The Stars junior took things over himself stepping back to knock down a massive three that he was fouled on turning it into a four-point play which made it a two possession game. Oklahoma City closed out the night from the charity stripe as the Stars went 7-for-8 down the stretch to escape with a five point victory.
GAME NOTES
- Oklahoma City moves to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in conference as the Stars bounce back from Monday's first loss.
- The Stars earn their highest ranked win since beating No. 3 Texas Wesleyan back in 2016.
- The win over No. 1 Langston gives Oklahoma City its first win over a first ranked team since doing so in 2002.
- Brandon Wilson notched his second consecutive double-double and his fourth of the season scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds hauling in double-digit rebounds for the fifth time this season.
- Beau Tranter sets a new career-high with 10 points on the night shooting 2-for-3 from distance while grabbing two offensive rebounds.
- Clayton Jewell saw his double-digit scoring streak of four games come to an end as Jewell put up eight points on the night to go along with seven rebounds, the first time since the season-opener he does not have double-figure boards.
- Avery Jackson was held to single-digits for the first time this season with nine points while playing in a season-low 22 minutes after getting into foul trouble early on.
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City heads to Central Christian on Saturday, Nov. 23 to face the Tigers at 4:00 PM in McPherson, Kan.
