CHICKASHA, OKLA. - The Oklahoma City men's basketball team had four reach double-figures as Thursday's game came down to the wire in a five point defeat to Science & Arts.
Thursday's contest got out to a quick start as each side maintained the lead throughout the early going. Oklahoma City ( ) took its biggest lead of the half at the 11:21 mark after a 5-0 run led by Yorgio Golesis with a three-point play followed by a turnaround jam by Jack McWilliams.
Science & Arts ( ) finished closed out the first half with a 9-5 run as the Drovers gained their largest lead of the half after getting up by as much as eight before Avery Jackson cut it down to six at the end of the half with a layup on a fastbreak.
OCU came out cooking as the Stars rallied with a 14-4 run to open the first eight minutes of play as Avery Jackon, Brandon Jackson and Parker Jones all cashed in on threes to help put the Stars out in front.
The game continued to remain tight as neither team could get up by more than three points. Golesis gave the Stars the lead with a shot from the beyond the arc to put the Stars ahead by two but a four point swing for the Drovers gave USAO the lead back again with 1:45 to go.
The sophomore McWilliams tied it back it back with a ferocious slam only for Reggie Quezada to answer with a three that put the Drovers in front once and for all.
Freshman Yorgio Golesis led the game with 22 points making it the third game of his rookie season to score 20 points or above.
Avery Jackson followed behind Golesis with 18 points on 5-11 shooting while cashing in on two threes while Jack McWilliams scored his second-highest total of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds earning his second double-double of the year.
Brandon Jackson competed in all 40 minutes of action as the senior netted 13 points while collecting three rebounds, threes assists and two blocks.
Oklahoma City comes back to Abe Lemons Arena for a three-game home stand as the Stars take on Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3:45 PM.
