Rams rally from beyond the arc handing eight point defeat to OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City men's basketball team fell victim to a hot shooting night from Texas Wesleyan as the Rams used 10 threes to secure a 79-71 victory inside Abe Lemons Arena on Saturday afternoon.  

Oklahoma City (4-13, 2-9) saw the bulk of its scoring come from four of the five starters as freshman Yorgio Golesis led the way with 19 points. Texas Wesleyan (5-12, 3-8) gathered 20 points each from Micale Mee and Isaiah Marin as Mee went 3-6 from three-point range and Marin led the way with five makes from downtown.  

Texas Wesleyan broke away in the first half with a 13-6 run in the final four minutes as the Rams saw their lead grow to as much as 16 while sinking seven of their 10 total threes in the first 20 minutes. 

Oklahoma City came out of the locker room catching fire as the Stars strung together a 14-2 run in the first five minutes Brandon Jackson got the Stars going with six points during the run while Jack McWilliams capped it off with a turnaround layin at the rim to bring the Stars within two.  

OCU kept the game within single digits, but Texas Wesleyan stretched its lead out to nine with 12:56 to play and never let it get back under five.  

Oklahoma City only allowed 33 points in the second half, outscoring the Rams by six in the final 20 minutes.  

Parker Jones tied a career-high with 17 points as the junior knotted up his previous high which came last season on Feb. 23, also against Texas Wesleyan. Jones shot 6-11 from the field while cashing in on his only three-point attempt of the day while grabbing five rebounds.  

Avery Jackson finished with 14 points while 12 of them came in the second half. Jackson knocked down two three-pointers in Saturday's game making it the third consecutive game with multiple treys.  

Brandon Jackson also tallied up 14 points without adding a three-pointer to his line. Jackson finished second on the team with six rebounds while going 6-13 from the field.  

Despite the loss, Oklahoma City remains in front of the Rams in the all-time series with a 12-10 record over the Rams dating back to 2009.  

The Stars continue its home stretch on Tuesday playing host to John Brown to begin the second half of SAC play starting a 7:45 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
