LITCHFIELD PARK, ARIZ. – Oklahoma City University women's golfer
Maddi Kamas is set to compete for the second straight year in the Patriot All-America Invitational Dec. 29-31 at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
The two-time All-American will be returning to the course to compete in the Patriot Invitational for the second year in a row among the nation's best golfers after hauling in two Sooner Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week awards during the fall season.
The field is limited to 84 male players and 42 female players. The GCAA will send invitations to those who have earned current year PING All-America honors in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA and NJCAA Divisions I and II. Additionally, invitations will be extended to a member of the United States Military, Naval and Air Force Academies, GCAA national award recipients, members of the most recent Palmer Cup Teams, American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-Americans, and Toyota Junior Golf World Cup participants currently enrolled in their freshman year of college.
Players are selected on a tiered level basis; collegiate players must be currently enrolled in school and part of a University team to be eligible. Those who meet the eligibility requirements but cannot participate in the Patriot because the field is full, will be invited to compete in the Thunderbolt.
The event features college golfers who were all-Americans across all affiliations the previous season. Conducted in a partnership between the Golf Coaches Association of America, the Arizona Golf Association and the West Valley Mavericks, The Patriot All-America honors fallen or severely wounded soldiers in collaboration with the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Kamas, the two-time WGCA first-team all-American makes her eligible to compete in the tournament being on the requirements to be able to compete. The unique aspect of this Championship is that the players, in addition to competing in a 54-hole stroke-play tournament, also honor our military heroes. At the opening ceremony, each golfer receives and carries a commemorative PING golf bag that bears the name and branch of a fallen or wounded hero. Additionally, all of the golfers have the opportunity to visit Luke Air Force Base, the training center for our nation's F-16 and F-35 fighter pilots. There, they meet with the General, fighter pilots, and crew, and tour the base while participating in activities rarely seen by civilians.
After winning NAIA Golfer of the Year in her sophomore season, Kamas comes off a strong fall season in 2023. Kamas led the way with a pair of 69s as the Stars claimed a first-place finish in the Southwestern Christian Invitational.
In the Red Raider Invitational filled with mostly division one golfers, Kamas finished tied for third after a 212 total score over threes while tying the course record in round two with a 65.
Play will begin Dec. 29 and will run through the 31st at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield, Ariz.
