LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma City University absorbed losses to Lourdes (Ohio) 27-18 and to Cornerstone (Mich.) 22-18 on Saturday at the Kentucky Exposition Center in the NWCA National Duals.
The Stars, ranked 19th in NAIA men's wrestling, came in 16th place in the tournament. OCU went to 6-6 this season.
Keegan Luton completed the tournament undefeated at 4-0. Luton, a sophomore psychology major from Mustang, Okla., owns a 13-2 season record and the No. 4 spot in the NAIA 149-pound rankings. Luton held onto a 3-1 victory against Thade Radosa of Cornerstone.
Lourdes overcame an 18-9 deficit in the dual. Drake Vannoy of the Stars came up with a 5-2 win at 165 pounds to provide OCU a nine-point lead. Cooper Mahaffey supplied OCU with a 6-3 victory in the 133-pound match.
Sterling McLaughlin took a 12-0 win against Grant Baber at 285 pounds to make the difference for Cornerstone and break an 18-18 tie.
The Stars meet Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 5 p.m. Jan. 17 at a place to be determined.
