PLAINVIEW, Texas - Oklahoma City University leaves Plainview with an 88-82 win over Wayland Baptist, the No. 22 ranked team in the NAIA. Wayland Baptist suffers their first home loss on the season.
Kori Guest continued his hot streak with 31 points for the Stars. Oklahoma City moves to 7-8, 5- 4 in Sooner Athletic Conference basketball.
Guest, a junior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., contributed seven rebounds and a steal along with his 31 points. He went seven for nine from beyond the arch and hit all seven of his free throws. OCU as a team had its largest lead of 17 with 15:01 left in the second half. They also only missed one free-throw. The win by OCU is their first win in 10 years at Wayland Baptist. Their last win occurred in the 2011-2012 season when they won 74-51.
OCU boasted with four players in double digit scoring.
Dravon Clayborn, a senior from Evanston, Ill., studying business administration had 15 points, five assists, and three steals.
Avery Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas hit five of eight shots and had 14 points.
Brandon Jackson had a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points.
OCU got out to an early 12-5 lead after a Guest 3-pointer. The game was closely contested in the first half with the Stars leading the majority of the time. The Pioneers tied the game at 31 with 5:47 left. OCU ended the first half on a 22-12 run. The Stars increased their lead to 17 in under five minutes to start the second half. WBU made a last-ditch effort to comeback as they got as close as one point with 46 seconds left. Guest made a jumper and Jackson made a pair of free throws to push the lead to five to secure the victory.
OCU's next game will be at Southwestern Christian at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
