BETHANY, Okla. - Oklahoma City University handed SCU their seventh loss on the season with an 85-70 victory. OCU had an impressive 46 points in the paint, 12 more than the Eagles.
Brandon Jackson had 23 points to lead OCU. The Stars were aggressive defensively as they gathered 11 steals and made them count with 26 points off turnovers compared to the Eagles six. The Stars move to 8-8, 6-4 on the season.
The 3-ball was not hitting for either team tonight as OCU only made five shots from beyond the arc and SCU made just six. The two teams shot a combined 22.9 percent from deep.
Jackson, a junior human performance major from Westmont, Calif. had a well-rounded game with seven rebounds and four steals to go with his 23 points. Overall, OCU had four double-digit scorers.
Kori Guest, a senior studying criminal justice from Tulsa, Okla., had his second double-double on the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Avery Jackson, the Stars leading scorer on the season finished the game with 19 points. Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas had the majority of his points from the line as he made 12-13 of his foul shots. The 13 free throws speaks volumes of his gameplay. On the season he has 101 total free throws which is 26th in the NAIA.
Dravon Clayborn was the last Star in double figures with 13 points. He had seven rebounds and three steals.
OCU got out to a hot start with a 21-12 advantage seven minutes into the game coming off a three-pointer by
Nick Bonifay. They led most of the first half with their only falter being a SCU 12-0 run right after Bonifay's bucket. Their only deficit in the game was 24-21 in the first. They ended the first half on an 11 to four run after OCU tied it back up at 27. OCU shut out any chance of a comeback in the second half. The closest the Eagles came to taking the lead was a 44-43 margin with 15:53 remaining. OCU took off and essentially shut them down in route to their 15-point win.
OCU will play Mid-America Christian Sat. at 3:45 p.m. at Redlands Community College for their next game.
