McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University used a big second half to put away Central Christian (Kan.) 70-59 on Saturday at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
The win was No. 400 for head coach
Mark Berokoff's career as OCU moved to 11-10, 9-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Berokoff's career record went to 400-223 in his 21st season as a head coach. Berokoff collected his 175th win as a college head coach, having led OCU and Randall to a 175-146 mark in his 11th season. His high school record was 225-77 in 10 years.
"I have been very lucky to have been able to coach really good teams over the years from high school to college," Berokoff said. "I have had great coaches with me who I share the wins with. I love this group of guys so much this year, and to have them be the one to help me get to this mark made it that much more special."
Oklahoma City closed the game on a 13-0 run.
Avery Jackson tied things with a pair of free throws, then put OCU ahead 60-59 by sinking a foul shot with 3:40 to go.
Kori Guest led the charge with 18 points. Guest got to the line 10 times and hit 8 of his free throws. Guest, a senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., also had 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Avery Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas, supplied six rebounds with his 16 points.
Brandon Jackson, a junior human performance major from Westmont, Calif., was the final Star in double figures with 15. He also had four steals and six boards.
As a team, OCU had 10 total steals and out-rebounded the Tigers by 10. OCU played at a different pace in the second half with 10 fast break points after tallying none in the first half. OCU dominated in the paint with 51 points compared to the Tigers 19.
Central Christian led at half 33-25, but the Stars came back with a vengeance, outscoring the Tigers 45-26 in the second half.
OCU heads to Siloam Springs, Ark., on Tuesday to play John Brown (Ark.) at 7:45 p.m.
