FORT WORTH, Texas - Oklahoma City University was defeated by Texas Wesleyan 89-81 on Thursday night in the Sid Richardson Center.
Three players provided sparks for the Stars as
Brandon Jackson,
Avery Jackson and
Dravon Clayborn all played 40 minutes. It was
Brandon Jackson who led with 21 points on nine for 19 shooting. OCU falls to 9-9, 7-5 on the season.
OCU trailed the Rams all of the first half and the second as TWU went wire-to-wire for the win. Their biggest deficit was eight in the first and 10 points overall. They fought back to trail by two at the half after four straight points from
Dravon Clayborn. The Stars boasted three players in double figure scoring after the first. Both teams had seven turnovers, but it was the Rams who capitalized off of them with 13 points. The Rams also shot the ball from 3 better making 44 percent compared to the Stars 24 percent.
The second half was similar to the first with the Stars starting slow as they trailed by 10 a few minutes in. They cut the score to a one-point game with just under 12 minutes left. OCU got within four points multiple times but couldn't mount the comeback as the Rams put them away each time.
Clayborn was the second leading scorer with 19 points. Clayborn, a senior business administration major from Evanston, Ill., was perfect from the free throw line.
Avery Jackson was the third leading scorer with 17 points. Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas also supplied the Stars with seven rebounds.
Kori Guest was the last Star in double figures with 13. Guest, a senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., supported with eight rebounds also.
The Stars will play USAO on Sat. Jan. 21 at 3:45 p.m. The game will be held at Oklahoma Christian University.
