OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University toppled Science & Arts 87-72 on Saturday at the Eagles Nest.
The Stars buried a season-best 15 3-pointers. Oklahoma City moved to 10-9, 8-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
OCU's Kori Guest totaled 29 points, five rebounds and three assists. Guest, a senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., nailed a season-high eight treys, shooting 10-for-15 from the field and 8-for-12 from 3-point range. Guest reached 25 points for the third time this season.
Avery Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas, supplied the Stars with 20 points and four rebounds. Brandon Jackson pitched in nine points, six rebounds and four assists, while Dravon Clayborn added eight points, six rebounds and 10 assists.
Mark Berokoff moved his career coaching record to 399-222 in his 21st year as a head coach on the high school and college levels. Berokoff has guided OCU and Randall to a 174-145 mark in his 11th year as a college coach.
The Stars dished out a season-high 22 assists.
"We got back to who we are," Berokoff said. "On Thursday, I think we only had three assists in the game. That's not the basketball we play. It wasn't anything for selfishness, but we just weren't making the extra pass, and today, we made the extra pass. Things are really easy when shots go through the net."
OCU unleashed an 11-0 onslaught towards the end of the first half powered by back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers. Guest downed a trey off Avery Jackson's feed, then Avery Jackson sank a 3 of his own. Guest swished in a 3-pointer from the left wing using Clayborn's assist to put the Stars ahead by 14 points. Jack McWilliams added a lay-in to cap the run that gave OCU a 46-30 advantage at the 1:15 mark.
Zach Lerblance hit a 3-pointer to provide the Stars their largest lead of the day 71-43 with 12:10 remaining. Science & Arts reeled off a 7-0 run that cut its deficit to 81-70 with 2:23 left, but OCU kept the Drovers from getting any closer.
The Stars meet John Brown (Ark.) at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
