Stars in fourth after day 1 in Stewart Memorial

Kamas leads OCU tied for fifth after first two rounds

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University held fourth after the first round of the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut Golf Course.
 
The Stars, top-ranked in the NAIA Women's Golf Coaches Association ratings, totaled a score of 300-294–594, going 18 over par. OCU sits only four shots off Missouri State for the lead. All of OCU finished in the top 30 out of 88 golfers after day one. 
 
The best individual performer for OCU after the first day was sophomore Maddi Kamas, who finished in fifth with a score of 74-73–147 going 3 over par. Kamas finished the first two rounds with six birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 3 and 4.

Reagan Chaney was OCU's next best performer, sitting tied for 14th going five over with a score of 76-73–149. Chaney got off to hot start in the second round, sinking birdies on four of the first five holes, and ending with seven birdies.
 
Paige Wood finished the day tied for 19th with a score of 76-74–150. She provided the Stars with seven birdies throughout both rounds. Natalie Gough ended the day tied for 26th with a score of 77-74–151 while draining four straight birdies in the second round on holes 5-8. She totaled five birdies on the day.
 
Morgan Palermo tied for 29th tallying a score of 74-78–152 with six birdies, five coming in the first round.
 
The Stars will look to stage a comeback in the third round when they tee off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
