OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University tests itself once more on the national championship course in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
Lincoln Park Golf Course is the site for the NAIA Championships on May 24-27 after hosting the 2019 national tournament. OCU played host to the 2021 NAIA Championships at Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
The Stars conclude the regular season in the 36-hole tournament, which starts 8:30 a.m. Monday with golfers teeing off on the first hole. OCU's golfers begin approximately 10:20 a.m. Monday. The course will be set up as a par-72, 6,000-yard layout. Ranked teams in the field include top-ranked Oklahoma City, sixth-rated Southeastern (Fla.) and No. 9 Texas Wesleyan. Conference members Southwestern Christian and Wayland Baptist (Texas) are also in the field. The Sooner Athletic Conference Championships take place April 25-26 at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla.
Oklahoma City has been the No. 1 team in four of the past five NAIA polls. In the latest rankings, the Stars garnered 16 of the 19 No. 1 nods. OCU tops the NAIA with 49 No. 1 rankings ever.
The Stars have taken six tournament wins for their most wins since 2008-09. In the Kyle Blaser Invitational on March 28-29, OCU prevailed by 21 shots against second-place Oklahoma Christian at Gaillardia Country Club.
Maddi Kamas earned her second win of the season by nine strokes to lead three top-five finishers for Oklahoma City.
Kamas, a freshman from Kingfisher, Okla., had the only under-par score over the three rounds with a 70-71-74–215 while nailing 12 birdies. Kamas took SAC and NAIA golfer of the week for her efforts. Kamas has produced a 73.27 scoring average in 2021-22.
OCU's
Reagan Chaney grabbed third, while

Susie Maxwell Berning gained membership in the World Golf Hall of Fame alongside Tim Finchem, Marion Hollins and Tiger Woods on March 9 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Berning competed for the OCU men's golf team during the 1960s, becoming the first women's golfer in school history. Berning turned professional on the LPGA Tour in 1964 and collected 11 victories, including four in major events.
The Stars compete at Lincoln Park Golf Course for the third time this season. Lincoln Park rates as one of Oklahoma's finest public golf courses. Oklahoma City's oldest public golf course unveiled its new state-of-the-art $9.25 million club house in spring 2015. The course was designed by Art Jackson and built in 1923. It features bent grass on the greens and Bermuda grass on the fairways.
The weather forecast calls for high temperatures in the 80s and overnight temperatures in the 60s. Winds are expected to blow between 15-30 mph. A 25 percent chance for rain exists for Tuesday.
Oklahoma City owns eight national championships captured in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
