MARSHALL, Mo. – Cade Manion's runner-up showing topped Oklahoma City University's efforts in the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday at the Burns Center.
Five wrestlers took top-five finishes in the tournament for OCU, ranked 17th in NAIA men's wrestling. Manion, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., picked up second place at 141 pounds.
The Stars' Drake Vannoy reeled in third at 157 pounds, while Keegan Luton nabbed fourth at 149. Logan Chappell and Jon McGowan each landed fifth at 133 pounds and 157, respectively, for Oklahoma City.
Manion dropped the championship final of the 141-pound division to Brock Hardy 19-1. Manion reached the title bout by edging Blake Cushing 2-0. Manion went 3-1 on the day with a pin against Missouri Valley's Hayden Williams. Manion, ranked 16th among NAIA 149-pounders, has an 8-4 record this season.
Casey Goss led the Stars with two falls in the tournament.
OCU competes for league honors and national-tournament berths in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 18-19 in Fort Worth, Texas.
