GLENDALE, Ariz. – No. 1 Arizona Christian used an 18-0 run in the second half to pull away from Oklahoma City University 80-59 on Saturday at the ACU Events Center in the ACU's Fultz Tournament.
The Stars had multiple leads in the first half, going up by as many as four multiple times, and were tied with the top-ranked Firestorm with 15 minutes remaining in the game. From that point, ACU took command, holding OCU scoreless for nearly eight minutes. The Stars last lead came from a
Jack McWilliams free throw with 17:05 remaining.
Avery Jackson and
Kori Guest led the Stars in scoring with 12 points each. Jackson was 4-for-10 from the field, while Guest went 5-for-12. Guest finished with two 3-pointers, three assists and six boards.
Parker Jones led scoring off the bench for the Stars with eight and supplied seven rebounds.
OCU also outrebounded ACU 43-37 thanks to 10 boards from
Brandon Jackson.
With the loss, OCU fell to 0-3, while Arizona Christian improved to 3-0. OCU will open the home season on Monday evening at Abe Lemons Arena against Ozark Christian (Mo.). Game time is 5 p.m. inside Abe Lemons Arena. Season tickets and single-game tickets are available at ocusports.com.
