GLENDALE, Ariz. – Oklahoma City University opened the Arizona Christian Fultz Classic with a 90-83 loss to Ottawa (Ariz.) on Friday at the ACU Events Center.
Avery Jackson posted a game-high 32 points for Oklahoma City. The Stars (0-2) led by as many as 10 points, but OUAZ battled back for the win.
Jackson, a freshman from Frisco, Texas, turned in OCU's first 30-point outing since Romario Spence had 31 at Mid-America Christian on Feb. 10. Jackson snagged nine rebounds and shot 12-for-23 from the field.
Kori Guest, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., produced 21 points, five rebounds and three steals while nailing 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and Brandon Jackson, a junior from Westmont, Calif., supplied the Stars with 12 points, five rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals with 4-for-9 shooting on 3-pointers.
OCU pushed its lead to double figures midway through the first half. Avery Jackson knocked in a trey to put the Stars ahead 25-15 at the 11:54 mark of the first period. OUAZ rallied with a 7-0 run to go up 40-35 late in the period.
Avery Jackson hit another 3 to give the Stars a 58-56 edge with 12:06 remaining. OUAZ responded with a 13-0 surge to seize the lead.
Oklahoma City takes on Arizona Christian, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, at 4 p.m. CDT (2 p.m. MST) Saturday at the Arizona Christian Events Center.
