SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University absorbed a 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 setback to John Brown (Ark.) on Friday night at Bill George Arena.
Riley Winkler, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, scooped up 21 digs. The Stars went to 9-10, 7-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Ruby Kelley, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., totaled six kills, nine digs and five blocks, while Michela De Stefano, a sophomore from Rome, provided OCU with six kills and seven digs.
Oklahoma City's Emma Vance, a junior from Norman, Okla., reeled in 11 assists and nine digs, and Cassidy DeShong, a sophomore from Amarillo, Texas, turned in 10 assists with four digs. Catelyn Vargas, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, contributed five kills and four blocks.
Vargas put the Stars ahead 17-13 in the third set by smacking a kill. John Brown rallied to take a 21-20 edge. John Brown picked up three points in a row to get to set point 24-21.
In the first set, Kelley pounded a kill that gave OCU a 10-9 edge. John Brown responded with the next six points capped by Jillian Blackman's ace.
The Stars face Mid-America Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
