NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took an 89-53 setback to the University Oklahoma on Tuesday night in men's basketball exhibition play at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Kori Guest topped the Stars with 14 points. Oklahoma City begins the regular season against The Master's (Calif.) at 1 p.m. MST (3 p.m. CDT) Nov. 3 in Glendale, Ariz.
Guest, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Dravon Clayborn, a senior from Evanston, Ill., put together 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Brandon Jackson, a junior from Westmont, Calif., provided OCU with 10 points and three rebounds.
Oklahoma City competed against an NCAA Division I squad for the first time since Nov. 10, 2014.
"Our kids have no quit," OCU coach Mark Berokoff said. "They love playing together. Our culture is really good within our program. They came against a very well-coached team and competed and didn't back down no matter what.
"I was very excited about the way we competed. We made it difficult for Oklahoma on a lot of their possessions. I think the big thing is we got to rebound better. In terms of the competitiveness, I was very pleased tonight."
Clayborn nailed a trey to cut Oklahoma's lead to 12-8 at the 12:43 mark of the first half. Oklahoma answered with a 7-0 run to push its advantage into double digits.
