SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University took a 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23 victory over John Brown (Ark.) on Wednesday night at Bill George Arena.
Ella Lofton led OCU with 15 kills. The Stars, ranked 19th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 3-4, 2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, provided OCU with a double-double with 14 digs and two blocks. Sophia Salak, a senior from McKinney, Texas, rang up 35 assists, seven digs and two blocks for the Stars.
Oklahoma City's Olivia Nutter, a senior from Plano, Texas, registered 10 kills and five blocks, while Ruby Kelley, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., totaled eight kills and two blocks.
Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., posted 21 digs and two aces, and Dylan Sokolosky, a freshman from Oklahoma City, notched nine digs and three aces for the Stars. Catelyn Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, added four kills, five digs, three aces and three blocks.
In the first set, OCU built a 9-4 lead with a 5-0 run. Lofton hammered back-to-back kills and teamed with Nutter on a block.
In the second set, the Stars erased a 16-15 deficit with three points in a row. Rylee Steward and Lofton smacked consecutive kills for OCU.
Kelley hammered two kills in a row to put the Stars on top 21-16 in the third set.
OCU returns to the court 6 p.m. Friday against Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
