OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fell to Mid-America Christian 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24 on Tuesday night at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Ruby Kelley topped OCU with a season-best 13 kills. The Stars, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, went to 6-5, 5-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Kelley, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., added six digs and two blocks. Oklahoma City's Sophia Salak, a senior from McKinney, Texas, put up 38 assists and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the year.
Catelyn Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, posted 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks, while Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., tracked down 18 digs for the Stars.
OCU's Kenady Bertling, a senior from Baytown, Texas, turned in nine kills, four blocks and three aces, and Ella Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, totaled eight kills and nine digs.
The Stars got out to a 6-1 lead in the first set. Bertling and Varga came together for a block as part of OCU's early surge.
In the second set, Oklahoma City overcame a 15-9 deficit with seven points in a row. Lofton triggered the uprising with two kills and a solo block.
In the fourth set, Kelley and Olivia Nutter nailed kills to help OCU even the score 24-24. Hanna Foecker smacked a kill, then Allison Porter and Cloie Mitchell teamed on a block to spark Mid-America Christian, which ended OCU's winning string at four matches.
The Stars meet Science & Arts at 7 p.m. Thursday in Chickasha, Okla.
