CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University posted a 25-21, 25-11, 25-22 win over Science & Arts on Thursday night at Drover Fieldhouse.
Ella Lofton reeled in a team-high 14 kills for Oklahoma City. The Stars, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, moved to 7-5, 6-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, scooped up 10 digs to notch her fourth double-double. Sophia Salak accrued 33 assists and eight digs for OCU.
Catelyn Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, recorded eight kills and two aces, while Kenady Bertling, a senior from Baytown, Texas, provided the Stars with seven kills, three aces and two blocks.
Oklahoma City's Ruby Kelley, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., turned in six kills, five digs and two blocks, and Olivia Nutter, a senior from Plano, Texas, contributed five kills and two blocks. Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., tracked down eight digs.
OCU closed out the first set by tallying the final three points. Lofton nailed a kill, and Salak served up an ace to propel the Stars.
In the second set, the Stars rolled to a 10-0 run to bring up set point. Vargas crushed three kills to spark OCU.
Facing a 13-11 deficit, Oklahoma City rallied as Bertling unleashed three aces in a row.
The Stars begins a stretch of six consecutive home matches 7 p.m. Oct. 1 against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at Abe Lemons Arena.
