OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 win over Langston on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Ella Lofton notched her third double-double in four matches for the Stars. OCU, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, moved to 5-4, 4-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas spearheaded Oklahoma City with 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces for her fifth double-digit dig total in a row. Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., posted 18 digs for her sixth contest with double-figure digs.
The Stars' Sophia Salak, a senior from McKinney, Texas, piled up 27 assists, five kills, five digs and three blocks, and Ruby Kelley, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., knocked down six kills.
Kenady Bertling and Catelyn Vargas supplied OCU with five kills each, while Jordan Ashley and Dylan Sokolosky picked up seven digs each.
The Stars reeled off five consecutive points to overcome a 9-6 deficit in the first set. Lofton nailed two kills, and Bertling had a kill and teamed with Salak on a block.
Oklahoma City erased 15-11 and 20-17 third-set holes. Salak and Olivia Nutter combined a block to tie the set 20-20. Thomas served up an ace to put the Stars ahead 21-20.
OCU clinched the victory as Bertling, Lofton and Vargas pounded kills.
The Stars take on Central Christian (Kan.) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
