Stars serve as NAIA Championship Opening Round host

NAIA Championship Opening Round returns to Ann Lacy Stadium

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma City University landed an NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round for the eighth time in a row.
The NAIA selected Ann Lacy Stadium on the Oklahoma City campus as the site for a four-team double-elimination tournament where a berth in the NAIA Softball World Series will be decided.
The NAIA Championship Opening Round occurs May 17-19. Every tournament champion in the Opening Round reaches the NAIA Softball World Series on May 27-June 2 at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.
The qualifiers and bracket for the NAIA Championship Opening Round will be announced 4 p.m. CST May 11 by the NAIA on its Facebook page.
Phil McSpadden has directed Oklahoma City to a 1,785-390 record in his 34th year as head coach. McSpadden owns the most victories against four-year schools in college softball history. The Stars won 3-1 over Morningside (Iowa) on March 6 at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City to give McSpadden 1,750 career victories.
Ann Lacy Stadium was dedicated April 8, 2008. The complex, located at NW 27th and Florida Avenue, features an indoor hitting facility, locker rooms, the Paul and Kim Sanders reception area and coaches offices. The stadium was completed in the summer of 2007 after the Stars took their eighth national championship.
Oklahoma City has captured 10 national championships in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2016 and 2017.
