Cherutich, Perkins win events in Bethel Last Chance meet

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University's Kipruto Cherutich, Antravius Perkins and Sair Salgado met the B standard for the NAIA track & field championships in the Bethel Last Chance Meet on Friday at Thresher Stadium.
Cherutich and Perkins turned in top finishes for the Stars.
Cherutich, a senior from Iten, Kenya, took first place in the 5,000 meters with his mark of 14 minutes, 48.43 seconds. Cherutich's personal best in the event is the 14:46 ran in the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic on Feb. 14-15, 2020. OCU had the top two finishers in the 5,000-meter race as Salgado, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., grabbed second with a time of 14:50.56. Both achieved B-standard times for the NAIA Championships on May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Ala., and rank among the top 31 times in the event among the NAIA this season.
Perkins, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., captured the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.59. Perkins' mark rates 27th in the NAIA in 2020-21 and as his top time in the 100.
