OCU cruises past Langston

Stars face Southwestern Assemblies of God at 4 p.m. Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University moved on in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament with a quarterfinal win over Langston 25-16, 25-16, 25-10 on Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lacy Beeler produced 12 kills for the Stars, ranked 19th in the NAIA. Oklahoma City (12-2) meets Southwestern Assemblies of God at 4 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena in the SAC Tournament semifinals.
Beeler, a senior from Jenks, Okla., scooped up six digs, while Ella Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, totaled 11 kills, 14 digs, two aces and a solo block for her sixth double-double of the season.
OCU's Sophia Salak, a junior from McKinney, Texas, amassed 40 assists, four digs and two aces, and Isabel Harwell, a junior from Edmond, Okla., turned in 11 digs and two aces.
Catelyn Vargas, a sophomore from Lubbock, Texas, added seven kills, and Caitlin Briggs, a senior from Mustang, Okla., chipped in four digs and a season-best four aces for the Stars.
In the second set, Beeler and Kenady Bertling provided OCU with kills as the Stars pulled away from a 12-12 tie with three points in a row. The Stars added a 5-0 run as Lofton nailed a pair of kills, and Briggs served up an ace.
