Stars jockey for position in Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament

THE MATCHUP

• Oklahoma City University seeks to remain undefeated this season as the Stars close the regular season at John Brown (Ark.)
• The Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament pairings will be announced Sunday with seeds determined by the conference oversight committee. Eight teams will qualify for the tournament from the 11-team league
• OCU takes the floor for the first time since Jan. 28
• John Brown is not allowing spectator attendance at its home contests
 
ABOUT THE STARS
• The Stars knocked off Texas Wesleyan 57-50 on Jan. 28 at Abe Lemons Arena. Oklahoma City (3-0, 2-0 SAC) erased an eight-point deficit
Abby Selzer, a 6-foot-2 junior from Thomas, Okla., notched 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Selzer accumulates 15.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.33 blocks a contest with a 56.3 percent field-goal percentage this season
Mallory Lockhart, a 5-8 junior from Keller, Texas, picked up 13 points. She hit all four of her foul shots. Lockhart rings up 11.0 points and 2.3 rebounds a contest
• The Stars' team field-goal percentage (47.3 percent) ranks seventh nationally. Erika Ankney leads the NAIA with a 72.4 percent field-goal percentage. To see how the Stars compare to the rest of the NAIA this season, click here
• Oklahoma City stands 14th in the most recent NAIA poll. Oklahoma City tops the NAIA with 265 consecutive appearances in the top 25 dating back to 1997-98
• OCU has captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017 and finished as national runner-up four times (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2019)
• The Stars have gone 53-5 against John Brown over the years. On Feb. 13, 2020, Oklahoma City sank John Brown 62-39 in Oklahoma City. Selzer turned in 19 points and 11 rebounds
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
• John Brown fell to College of the Ozarks (Mo.) 80-63 on Friday in Point Lookout, Mo. The Golden Eagles (5-4, 5-3 SAC) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end
• Tarrah Stephens, a 5-10 sophomore, had 14 points and eight rebounds. Stephens was the SAC player of the week for Feb. 8-14. She averages 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game
• The Golden Eagles were expected to finish sixth in the SAC according to the preseason league poll

MEET THE COACHES
Brett Tahah (first season with OCU)
• Tahah became the first former Oklahoma City player to take over the program as head coach. Tahah (nee' Bates) helped the Stars advance to two NAIA Division I Championship Tournament Fab Four appearances, two conference tournament championships, one SAC regular-season title and an .863 winning percentage (63-10) from 2008-10
• Accumulated a 117-50 head-coaching record (.701 winning percentage) with two state tournament semifinal berths in six years at Oklahoma high schools Frontier, Elgin, Hobart and Lookeba-Sickles
• Tahah coached eight all-staters and collected two regional coach of the year honors on the prep level
• During her college career, Tahah tallied 1,227 points and 178 3-pointers and became league player of the year

Jeff Soderquist (358-370, 24th season with John Brown)
• Soderquist is the winningest coach in program history, and has guided the Golden Eagles to five trips to the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament including a trip to the Fab Four in 2014
• In 2013-14, the women's basketball program pieced together 28 total victories and 15 wins in Sooner Athletic Conference play, both program records
• In 2011, Soderquist was named the SAC Coach of Character
