WINFIELD, Kan. – Seventh ranked Oklahoma City University turned in a dominant performance at the Southwestern College Mid-States Classic on Saturday morning. The Stars finished in a first-place in the team standings on the strength of three top-10 finishes and eight top-40 finishes.
The one-two punch of junior
Zouhair Talbi and sophomore
Shimales Abebe dominated once again, with Talbi winning the 8K with a 23:50.54 effort and Abebe placing second at 24:14.05. Both runners have claimed NAIA National Runner of the Week honors this season.
Senior
Milos Pendic finished seventh at 25:32.57 and senior
Milan Todorovic placed 11
th at 26:00.06.
Also finishing in the top-40 for OCU were junior
Paul Welch (15th- 26:21.41), sophomore
Emmanuel Kipruto (18th- 26:37.42), freshman
Fares Marrouf (26th- 27:10.22) and Joseph Engles (36th- 27:29.65).
Sooner Athletic Conference teams dominated the field of 22 teams, claiming the top three spots. SAC members Wayland Baptist (Texas) finished second and John Brown third in the final team standings.
OCU will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 with the running of the SAC Championships at Eldon Lyon Park in Bethany.
