Stars stomp Central Christian

OCU takes fourth consecutive win in league play

McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University cruised by Central Christian (Kan.) 25-5, 25-17, 25-10 on Tuesday night at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena. 

Catelyn Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, propelled OCU with 15 kills. The Stars improved to 14-8, 12-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball. 

Emma Vance, a sophomore from Norman, Okla., notched her career highs with 30 assists and nine digs, while Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., tracked down 11 digs for Oklahoma City. 

Hannah Grundy, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, and Olivia Nutter, a senior from Plano, Texas, each provided the Stars with seven kills. Dylan Sokolosky, a freshman from Oklahoma City, landed a season-high four aces to go with eight digs. 

OCU finished off the first set with 11 unanswered points as Sokolosky served up all four of her aces in the match. Ella Lofton added three kills in the Stars' surge. The Stars allowed their fewest points in a set since limiting Dallas Christian to three points on Sept. 18, 2010 in Shawnee, Okla. 

The Stars used a 7-0 run to build a 24-15 second-set advantage. Vargas fueled OCU by pounding four kills in that stretch. 

Vargas knocked down four more kills in Oklahoma City's 9-1 onslaught in the third set. Vargas nailed three consecutive kills to put OCU ahead 23-9.  

The Stars face Langston at 7 p.m. Thursday in Langston, Okla.
