Stars flatten Southwestern Christian

OCU matches its season high with 11 team blocks

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 win over Southwestern Christian on Monday night at Abe Lemons Arena. 

Ruby Kelley collected a team-best 11 kills for Oklahoma City. The Stars went to 11-6, 10-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball. 

Kelley, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., chipped in nine digs and two blocks. Josie Thomas, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., scooped up 20 digs for OCU. 

Sophia Salak, a senior from McKinney, Texas, posted 25 assists, seven digs and three blocks, while Ella Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, totaled four kills, 11 digs and two aces. Lofton picked up double-digit digs for the 11th time this season for the Stars. 

Kenady Bertling, a senior from Baytown, Texas, provided OCU with five kills and two blocks, and Olivia Nutter, a senior from Plano, Texas, turned in four kills and six blocks. Rylee Steward, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, contributed four kills and three blocks. OCU equaled its season high with 11 team blocks. 

OCU reeled off five consecutive points to put together a 12-6 first-set lead. Lofton, Nutter and Salak each racked up a kill to spark the Stars' run. 

In the second set, the Stars built a 22-11 advantage. Steward knocked down a kill, then Kelley smacked a pair of kills to cap a 6-0 OCU surge.  

In the third, OCU unleashed a 7-0 run to move ahead 16-9. Lofton had two aces, while Kelley pounded two kills to key the Stars.  

Oklahoma City completes a stretch of four matches in five days against John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
