OCU falls short to Texas Wesleyan 68-67

Texas Wesleyan scores winning basket with 16 seconds remaining

OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas Wesleyan edged Oklahoma City University 68-67 on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Sebastian Karwoski knocked in a jump shot in the lane with 16 seconds left to provide Texas Wesleyan the winning points. OCU fell to 0-2, 0-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Eric Amandio provided the Stars with a 67-65 lead on a jumper in the paint with 2:16 remaining. Romario Spence scored near the basket to tie the game 65-65 at the 2:45 mark. After Karwoski's bucket, the Stars came up empty in their final two possessions of the game.
Spence, a junior from Luton, England, powered OCU with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Kori Guest, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., turned in 15 points and two steals. Eric Amandio, a junior from Luanda, Angola, chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and four assists while shooting 5-for-6 from the floor for the Stars.
Oklahoma City held the edge in rebounding 47-41, offensive rebounds 16-11, second-chance points 19-9 and points from the free-throw line 14-13. Both teams shot below 40 percent from the field.
The Stars used an 8-0 run to go up 14-8 in the first period. OCU's Vaughn Raney canned a trey, then Elie Ghomsi scored in the paint. Kealon Clayborne sank a 3-pointer to cap the surge at 12:45 mark.
Texas Wesleyan had the largest lead of the night. Vydal Bradford's free throw put the Rams ahead 44-35 with 16:10 left in the game.
OCU has Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on the schedule in a 3:45 p.m. tipoff Saturday in Waxahachie, Texas.
