Central Christian outlasts OCU 74-67

Stars get on court for first time since March 3, 2020

McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University fell short to Central Christian (Kan.) 74-67 on Saturday at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
Kori Guest, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., topped OCU's season-opening effort with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. The Stars will look to hand Tim Kisner his first win as OCU coach 7:45 p.m. Thursday against Texas Wesleyan at Abe Lemons Arena.
Ryan Birt, a senior from Plano, Texas, provided the Stars with 11 points, three rebounds and six steals, and Kealon Clayborne, a senior from Cedar Hill, Texas, added 10 points and two thefts.
OCU secured 13 steals and forced Central Christian into 21 turnovers. The Stars held advantages in bench scoring (27-10) and rebounding (37-36). Romario Spence hauled in a team-best seven rebounds, while Dadrian Hoambrecker dished out a team-high four assists for OCU.
Clayborne nailed a 3-pointer to put OCU on top 12-8, but Central Christian answered with a 12-0 run.
In the second half, the Stars put together nine unanswered points to slice their deficit to 46-45. Curtis Osceola scored on a backdoor cut, then Spence had a bucket in the paint to cap OCU's run with 11:24 showing on the clock. Central Christian reeled off the game's next seven points in response.
Oklahoma City had won its previous five encounters with Central Christian. Central Christian knocked off OCU 95-85 in the first meeting between the two schools in men's basketball Jan. 16, 2018 in Oklahoma City.
