OCU dispatches of Southwestern Christian 103-78

Six Stars reach double figures in scoring

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University pounded Southwestern Christian 103-78 on Tuesday night at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
Anthony Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, spearheaded OCU with 19 points. The Stars improved to 13-11, 6-9 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Davis hauled in five rebounds and shot 7-for-10 from the field. Oklahoma City boasted of six double-figure scorers as Elie Ghomsi, a sophomore from Bafoussam, Cameroon, collected 15 points and nine rebounds while hitting all six of his field-goal attempts. Ghomsi had double digits in points for the third time this season.
OCU's Eddie Smith, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., turned in 13 points, three rebounds and three assists with 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point territory. Eric Wattree, a senior from Port Orchard, Wash., tallied 13 points, two assists and two steals while downing 3 of 5 3-point shots.
Rashaun Coleman, a sophomore from Houston, stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds and six assists, while Trae Bryant, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., contributed 10 points for the Stars.
Oklahoma City reached 100 points for the second time this season. The Stars drilled 16 of their 31 3-point tries. OCU posted a field-goal percentage of 55 percent or better for the fifth time this season (58.1 percent). OCU had a 34-30 rebounding advantage and scored 22 second-chance points.
The Stars piled up their most points by halftime this season in creating a 55-36 cushion by the break. OCU fell one point shy of its high point total for a half of 56 scored in the second period against Bacone. OCU fired in 64.5 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from 3-point land (10-for-17) in the first period.
Davis nailed a trey to give Oklahoma City its biggest lead of the night 73-46 with 13:59 showing on the clock.
In the first half, OCU moved ahead 17-8 after a 7-0 run. Wattree sparked the Stars by grabbing a steal and nailing a 3-pointer.
Oklahoma City pushed its lead to 47-27 as Eddie Smith drained a trey with 4:56 left in the first half.
The Stars entertain John Brown (Ark.), ranked ninth among NAIA Division I, at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
