OCU edges Langston 67-62

Stars seal win with six made free throws in last minute

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University held onto a 67-62 victory over Langston on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Darrion Willies, a senior from Fontana, Calif., propelled OCU with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Stars improved to 12-9, 5-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Willies hit all seven of his shots from the field, including a dunk early in the second half to help rally OCU from a five-point deficit. OCU owns a two-game winning streak after dropping three in a row.
The Stars nailed six free throws to leave behind a 62-61 deficit with a minute to go. Willies sank two with 48 seconds left, then Eddie Smith connected on a pair of foul shots with 24 seconds remaining. Rashaun Coleman knocked down two free throws with five seconds to go.
Oklahoma City turned in a sizzling 72.2 percent shooting clip from the field in the second half. The Stars shot 13-for-18 in the second period to finish with a 54.3 percent field-goal percentage. OCU surpassed 50 percent shooting for the sixth time in 2019-20.
Trae Bryant ignited the Stars with 12 second-half points. Bryant, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Kealon Clayborne, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas, supplied OCU with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Anthony Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, produced nine points and nine rebounds, while Eddie Smith, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., pitched in nine points and three assists for the Stars. Smith downed a 3 to give OCU its widest margin of the day 56-50 with 7:35 remaining.
OCU faces Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
