OCU rallies past Central Christian 83-79

Stars overcome five-point deficit in final minute of regulation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pulled off an 83-79 overtime victory over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars went on a 12-0 run that started in the final minute of regulation and continued into overtime to secure the win. Oklahoma City improved to 8-4, 2-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Trae Bryant rallied OCU by nailing a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left, then a lay-in to tie the game 70-70 with 1.4 seconds remaining in the second half. Bryant, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., drove the lane to provide the tying basket and send the game to overtime.
In the extra period, Bryant assisted as Anthony Davis scored, then Rashaun Coleman nailed a trey. Bryant capped the 12-point turnaround with a jumper. The Stars improved to 2-1 in overtime contests this season.
Coleman's basket put OCU ahead 41-31 early in the second period. Central Christian whittled away at the Stars' lead, tying the game 59-all on Bengy Diatta's bucket at the 4:42 mark. Ben Glover had a 3 to give Central Christian a 62-60 edge with 3:31 showing.
Eric Wattree sank a trey to answer for OCU, but Glover added three points to put Central Christian back on top. Torrey Henry's 3-pointer with 58 seconds to go gave Central Christian a 70-65 lead for its largest advantage of the game.
Davis, a senior from Lewisville, Texas, notched his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Coleman, a junior from Houston, supplied the Stars with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Bryant contributed 16 points and five assists.
A.J. Cockrell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., put together 14 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, while Darrion Willies, a senior from Fontana, Calif., produced 10 points and six rebounds for the Stars.
Oklahoma City held an opponent to less than 40 percent shooting from the field for sixth time this season. Central Christian managed a 38.2 percent field-goal percentage Saturday.
OCU faces Texas Wesleyan at 7:45 p.m. Thursday inside Abe Lemons Arena.
